We have
many visitors throughout the year and our staff are always
happy to provide a guided tour of the building on request,
free of charge. During the summer months we set aside three
times for visitors who are interested in seeing more of the
Globe Inn.
These
times are: 10.30am, 3.00pm and 7.00pm. We will, of course,
be happy to show visitors around who cannot make these times.
You can discover more about the Globe and
meet our ghost by taking our virtual tour ...

The
Globe Inn lends itself to visits from groups and we would
be delighted to accommodate any requests from interested parties.
We would be happy to help organise any visit to Dumfries and
the Globe Inn. Recent visitors include a party of 40 ramblers
who visited Ellisland Farm and the town of Dumfries, finishing
off their day with a tour of the Globe and a Burns lunch.
We have
a large lounge which accommodates 70 people, also two small
dining rooms for 12 each, and the Howff room which can take
18 people for lunch or dinner and larger parties for meetings
or buffets. Menus, entertainment (e.g. Burns Suppers) and
late licences can be arranged on request. Our friendly staff
are happy to help with any other information you require to
maximise the enjoyment of your visit.
The
Globe Inn, with its central location makes the ideal meeting
place for individuals, groups and clubs. Within 200 yards
there are two large car parks and the Globe itself is just
a short step from the margins of the High Street.
The Burns
Howff Club have been meeting at the Globe Inn for 120
years and the Cornets Club since 1933. The Cornet is a young
man from the town who is selected to lead the cavalcade of
other horse mounted men and women to re-enact the riding of
the boundaries of the Royal town of Dumfries (Guid Nychburris).

The
week long pageant is called Guid Nychburris and on the third
Saturday in June culminates in the carrying of the Laureated
standard throughout the streets of Dumfries with the newly
crowned Queen of the South.
Dumfries
during that week, like many border towns is in party mode
and so this is an ideal time to visit the Royal Burgh and
absorb some of the atmosphere of this 800 year old tradition.
The picture included here gives an indication of the cornet
in action.
