I have visited the Globe Inn many times over the years and I hope they NEVER modernise it and make it into a 20th century version of the past. Let's leave history alone. Also, the haggis is the best I have ever tasted. Happy Burns Nicht to all.
27 December 2007 - Shug
I used to pop in here when I was a student at the Barony College in 95/96.
It was a great pub then, and still seems to be great. I look forward to visiting sometime soon...

We visited The Globe Inn this June. My husband and I, my son Max, and stepdaughter Hilary, were warmly welcomed after a long day of driving and sightseeing. We so appreciated the private tour given to us by the jovial honorary manager. And what a wonderful lot in the snug bar! If we lived nearby, I’m sure we would enjoy many lively conversations there. We hope to be back someday. Thanks so much for an unforgettable memory!

My wife and I just celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary and our thoughts went back to a wonderful evening spent at the Globe Inn on July 28, 2001, 2 nights before our wedding. Jane Brown was an excellent hostess and good fun was had by all. We are planning to visit Scotland and the Globe Inn again in time for the Globe's 400th Anniversary. Please let us know when information will be posted concerning the celebrations.

I was a waitress there at the Globe many years ago! Gosh - Maybe 16 years now! Andrew was cooking in the kitchen and I have many happy memories of working there. It was just dripping with atmosphere and history, and I tell everyone here in Chicago all about my time working there!

We were very impressed by the attention to detail at our recent ‘pre-wedding’ dinner. 10 adults and 4 children were well catered for in The Burns Room, it was just the right size for a cosy, candle lit, dinner for close family the night before our wedding. The Manageress (Jane) excelled herself as our ‘tour guide’ her enthusiasm for Burns and his work, and the history of the building, was a joy to behold. The food prepared by the ‘ever helpful’ Gary @ 1610 was excellent. We were all very happy with everything, my guests were impressed, some of whom had driven all the way from South Kent, so the warm welcome was all the more appreciated.
To top it all off the unexpected presentation of a bottle of wine for us both – with a little poem on it, balloons, and the heather, thistle, and tartan decoration (what a coincidence, you didn’t know his buttonhole for the next day was made up of white heather and thistle) – was a personal and moving touch which makes the whole night especially memorable. Fantastic food and a friendly welcome. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for making the night one to remember forever for all the right reasons.
05 April 2005 - Jessie Hislop
I had a wonderful eveing in the Globe a couple of years ago and I wish I could return tonight or at least soon. Your website is excellent and evokes the feel of the place wonderfully.
At the time, I was intrigued to learn of William "Jock" Hyslop and his wife (and read the letters and grace in which they were mentioned) but didn't think much more about it. Now in compiling my family tree I'm wondering if there might be a connection.
Would you know "Meg's" maiden name ? Or have any info about when and where they married or died ? Did they have any children ?
Thanks so much for great hospitality and I'll hope as well for a few leaves for my family tree!

My GGrandfather, Michael Farrell lived at 34 High st with his wife and family. She died 1914. I was told he wrestled a bear outside the Hole in the Wall Pub. He was a gas works stoker, He must have drank in the Globe living so close. Will have to visit next time I visit Dumfries.
