O Lord, since we have feasted thus,
Which we so little merit,
Let Meg now take away the flesh,
And Jock bring in the spirit!
Written by Burns for the landlord of the Globe, William Hyslop, in return for dinner. Said after dinner.

The Lounge Bar
<<Go Back to the Courtyard Move into the Snug Bar>>

On entering through the narrow split door we turn right and head into the lounge bar which in Robert Burns day was the original stabling. Here his horse would be well looked after by the Globe Inn groom until his business was concluded and he could head back from Dumfries to Jean at Ellisland Farm some six miles distant. The Globe could be described as a latter day car park, somewhere safe to leave your most precious asset!

Leaving the lounge we enter through a very low entrance to the snug bar 'guarded' by a sliding door
